Streetly flooding caused by blocked sewer

An investigation into the cause of flooding to homes has revealed it was caused by rags and sanitary products that were flushed down a sewer.

About four homes in Streetly in the West Midlands were affected about three times last year.

A spokesman for Severn Trent said the removal work would cost about £250,000.

People have been urged to dispose of certain items correctly to avoid future blockages and flooding.

Jo Morris, from Severn Trent, said: "Like a lot of customers in the area, we are disappointed that people are still disposing of their items like this.

"The sewers aren't meant to take it and it causes a lot of misery."
