A £5,000 reward has been offered by Crimestoppers for information about an attack on a 93-year-old woman.

Emma Winnall suffered a fractured skull, a broken arm and wrist and a partially severed finger at her Birmingham home overnight on 30 April.

At a news conference on Tuesday her daughter, Joyce Blencoe, said the attack was a "horrific nightmare".

Mrs Winnall is in a critical but stable condition in hospital, West Midlands Police said.

Det Ch Insp Sab Johal said: "Local people hold the key to finding who is responsible for this terrible attack."

Police said items of Mrs Winnall's clothing have been sent away for fast-track DNA analysis.

Forensics experts are assessing her injuries to try to determine what implement may have caused them, a spokesman said.

West Midlands Police said the motive for the "senseless" attack remains unclear.
