Two people questioned over a double shooting at a house in the West Midlands have been released on bail.

Ambulance crews found a 43-year-old man and a 39-year-old woman with gunshot wounds in Laneside Gardens, Walsall, shortly after 01:30 BST on Friday.

Paramedics tried to revive them but they died at the scene.

A man, 23, and woman, 22, were arrested on suspicion of murder and questioned by West Midlands Police. They have been bailed pending further inquiries.

Post-mortem examinations have revealed the 43-year-old man suffered two gunshot wounds while the 39-year-old woman was shot once, police said.

Both are yet to be formally identified.

The scene remained cordoned off as forensic examinations at the house continue.

Supt Keith Fraser, head of crime and operations for Walsall, said: "Our thoughts are with the family of the victims at this difficult time.

"We cannot underestimate the impact an incident like this has on the community but I would reassure local people that they have nothing to fear with regard to their own safety as we are treating this as an isolated incident."
