Birmingham bell ringers claim national title

A team of Birmingham bell ringers has won a national competition for a record 19th time.

The city was this year represented by a team from St Martin's Church in the Bullring.

The team was one of 10 taking part in the 12 Bell Striking Competition, this year held in Derbyshire.

Clare McArdle, Secretary of St Martin's Guild of Bell Ringers, said it meant Birmingham won more than half the finals in the last 38 years.

The city will also play host to the Ringing World national youth competition, for under 18-year-olds, on 30 June.
