Girl, nine, sexually assaulted in Crewe

A nine-year-old girl has been sexually assaulted in Cheshire by a man who had asked her to help look for his dog.

The girl was approached by the man, who she did not know, in Cranbourne Road, Crewe, on Sunday evening.

He told her he had lost his dog and asked for help to find it.

Cheshire Police said when the girl went with him to look, he hugged her and then touched her inappropriately. She then protested, ran off and told members of her family.

The man was described as white, possibly in his 30s, with brown eyes and a slim build.

He was thought to have an English accent and told the girl his name was Dave.

Det Supt Jim Boulton said officers had not heard of any other similar incidents but urged parents to be vigilant and report any suspicious behaviour to police.

He urged anyone with information to contact them.
