Rubbish blaze at Kingswinford recycling centre

Firefighters have tackled a blaze at a recycling centre that saw 100 tonnes of rubbish alight.

Emergency services were called to Oakham Environmental Waste and Recycling Centre, Oak Lane, Kingswinford at about 19:20 GMT on Saturday.

Six crews were despatched, from Dudley, Brierley Hill, Woodgate and Wolverhampton.

Group Commander Andy Grosvenor said the fire had been brought under control.

He said crews were leaving the scene under the control of site managers as little could be done overnight.

"It's a deep seated fire, there are no surface flames," he said.

West Midlands Fire Service said it was not the first time they had been called to tackle a rubbish fire at the site.

Mr Grosvenor said a meeting had been arranged with the owners, the local council, environmental health officers and others to see if safety could be improved at the site.
