Gurinder Singh given life sentence for strangling partner

A man who strangled his partner has been sentenced to life for her murder.

Gurinder Singh, 42, was told he must serve a minimum of 12 years after being found guilty at Wolverhampton Crown Court on Thursday.

The body of 34-year-old Parmamjit Kaur was found at the house they shared in Walter Street, West Bromwich in July.

West Midlands police said it was a tragic case of a young woman who made the decision to leave her partner and was murdered as a result.

Det Sgt Ranj Sangha said: "Singh hid her body and left it in a store cupboard for a number of hours while he travelled to and from London before taking the decision to report his crime to police.

"I hope today's verdict brings some closure to Parmamjit's family and friends."

Police said the victim moved in with Singh when her marriage broke down in early 2012.

Her 13-year-old daughter from her first marriage lives in India.
