Third arrest after car shot at in Birmingham

A third man has been arrested after police fired shots at a car suspected of being involved in a robbery attempt in Birmingham.

The 24-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit robbery.

Firearms officers stopped a car in Spencer Street in the Jewellery Quarter on Thursday by puncturing its tyres.

Two other men, aged 35 and 32, have already been arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit robbery.

Det Insp Darren Crutchley said: "The pair, aged 35 and 32, were stopped in a vehicle on Spencer Street by officers who used specialist low impact rounds to puncture the tyres of the car.

"Nobody was injured during the incident.

"A third man, aged 24, has also been arrested in relation to this ongoing investigation.

"All three remain in custody and will be questioned by detectives from West Midlands Police Serious and Organised Crime Unit."
