Illegal immigrant Qasim Khan jailed for stabbing Sulina Ullah
An illegal immigrant who stabbed his female housemate in Birmingham has been jailed for seven years.
Qasim Khan, 38, attacked Sulina Ullah, 31, in November 2011 in Glovers Road, Small Heath.
Khan then went on the run for 15 months until a BBC Crimewatch appeal led to him being recognised by a member of the public.
After completing his sentence he will be immediately deported to his native Afghanistan.
Khan said the stabbing was an accident and told Birmingham Crown Court Miss Ullah had "fallen on to the knife."
After Khan was sentenced on Friday, West Midlands Police said he had been harassing Miss Ullah in the days before the attack.
"Sulina's injuries were initially life-threatening and she spent several days in hospital," said Det Con Rob Clarke.
"It was a nasty, unprovoked attack on an innocent woman."
Mr Clarke thanked the member of the public for contacting police after the Crimewatch programme.
"It just goes to show how just one call can make all the difference," he said.
