Baby dies in Birmingham after car hits wall and tree

A baby has died and four women injured after the car they were in hit a wall and a tree in Birmingham.

The crash happened on Thursday at 15:55 BST on Gibbons Road, Selly Oak.

West Midlands Ambulance Service said the baby was taken to the children's hospital and given CPR en-route. The child was confirmed dead at the hospital.

The four women in the vehicle needed treatment for back and head injuries.

An ambulance spokesperson said, "A woman driver who had a head injury was immobilised with the use of a spinal board and neck collar and was taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham.

"A woman who was a front seat passenger got herself out of the car with minor injuries and made her own way to a hospital.

"Two other woman, both rear seat passengers were both immobilised and taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham."
