Man in court over Smethwick teenager's car crash death

A man has appeared in court charged with killing a boy who died after being hit by a car which crashed into a shop.

Mahamed Nabaz Salam, 28, of West Bromwich, West Midlands, is charged with causing 15-year-old Joshua McAuley's death by dangerous driving.

Joshua died after the car left the road in Cape Hill, Smethwick, on 15 May.

Mr Salam, of Green Street, is also charged with failing to stop at the scene of an accident and failing to report an accident.

He did not enter any pleas to the charges when he appeared at Warley Magistrates' Court, in Oldbury.

The defendant is due to appear at Wolverhampton Crown Court on 25 October.
