Dudley high street substation blast

A clean-up has taken place after an explosion at an electricity substation closed a Black Country high street.

An electrical fault is thought to have sparked the explosion in Dudley at the junction with Union Street and Wolverhampton Street at about 0730 GMT.

The force of the blast threw a manhole cover in the air, smashing nearby shop windows. No one was injured.

Road closures were place while energy supplier Eon made the area safe, but the roads were reopened later.
