A 39-year-old man has died after he was hit by three cars in West Yorkshire.

Police said two of the three cars which hit Stephen Wood failed to stop at the scene of the crash on the A65 Skipton Road, near Ilkley, just after midnight.

Mr Wood, who is from the Ilkley area, had been drinking in the Vaults public house earlier in the evening before walking along the A65.

West Yorkshire Police said they wanted to speak to anyone with information about the collision.

Officers are speaking to the female driver of the car which did stop at the scene.

Det Sgt Carole Clayton said: "We would like to hear from anyone who was drinking with him or saw him after he left the pub.

"We are urging the drivers of both of the cars that didn't stop after colliding with Stephen to contact us. I would also ask anyone who has suspicions about a friend or relative being involved to let us know.

"We are currently examining CCTV in the area with a view to identifying the drivers involved."
