Funding has been secured for a major hotel and leisure project in Halifax which will create more than 400 jobs.

Santander Bank has announced it will provide £35m for the Broad Street Plaza scheme in the town.

Further funding for the £50m development has been provided by Yorkshire Forward and other partners.

It is hoped the project will bring an additional £8m per year to the town's economy. The scheme includes a hotel, offices, shops and a cinema.

More than 220 permanent jobs will be created, along with nearly 200 jobs during construction.

Work on the site has begun and the development is expected to be completed by March 2011.
