Police patrols stepped up for New Year's Eve

Extra police patrols will be in place in the Airedale and North Bradford areas to help and protect New Year's Eve revellers.

Additional officers will be on the streets of Keighley, Bingley, Shipley and Eccleshill on Friday night, as people prepare to see in 2011.

Police are advising those going out not to drink too much.

They are also urging people to avoid unlicensed taxis by only queuing at registered ranks.

West Yorkshire Police said it hoped the new year period would follow the example of Christmas, which largely passed without incident across the town's centres.

The force's Ch Insp Steve Thomas, of West Yorkshire Police, said: "We have generally been pleased by the behaviour of revellers over the festive season and we would ask that they continue to work with us to ensure we get 2011 off to a safe start."
