Men accused of South Elmsall murder remanded in custody

Four men charged with the murder of a man who died after being assaulted have been remanded in custody following a court appearance.

Ian Mark Smith, 22, died as a result of head injuries after an assault in Barnsley Road in South Elmsall at about 0150 GMT on Saturday.

The men appeared at Pontefract Magistrates' Court earlier.

They were remanded in custody ahead of an appearance at Leeds Crown Court tomorrow.

Police said another man, aged in his 20s, was arrested on Monday night in connection with the incident and remains in custody.
