Lorry driver crushed by load of 32 desks in Bristol

A lorry driver suffered serious injuries when his load of 32 desks fell on him outside an office block in Bristol.

The man suffered head, chest and abdominal injuries in the incident in Portland Square, St Pauls, just before 1615 BST on Monday.

An ambulance service spokesman said the man, who is in his mid 40s, was in the back of his lorry when the stack of desks fell on him, knocking him out.

He was taken to Frenchay Hospital.

The spokesman for Great Western Ambulance Service said: "External injuries included abrasions and bruising to his chest and head.

"He is also thought to have suffered internal injuries to these areas, as well as his abdomen, although they are not believed to be life-threatening."

He said the man regained consciousness at the scene.
