City of Bath College has submitted plans for a new £5m building.
Under the proposal, the college would demolish its Kings Building and replace it with a three-storey facility on James Street West and Avon Street.
The new building would house student services, a reception area, hair and beauty salons, a dedicated higher education centre and a shop.
It could be open by September 2011 if Bath and North East Somerset Council approves the plans before Christmas.
"This is an ambitious new building project which will provide a range of excellent new facilities for our students and bring all college staff together on to one campus," said college principal Matt Atkinson.
"We are currently carefully planning the construction process to ensure that our students and neighbours experience the minimum amount of disruption while work takes place."
