The parents of two boys killed in a house fire in Bristol have paid tribute to neighbours who tried to save them.

McKenzie Whitton, seven and his five-year-old brother Charlie died in the fire at the house on Merryweather Close, Bradley Stoke, on Saturday.

Parents Lee and Alex Whitton thanked neighbours and fire officers who "risked their own lives to try and save our children".

"They will be greatly missed by all of those that knew them," they said.

The statement from the family added that the bodies of the boys had yet to be formally identified, but that was expected to happen over coming days.

"We would also like to thank all of those who sent messages of support and ask now that we are given the chance to come to terms with our loss and that our children are treated with due reverence," they added.

The cause of the fire has yet to be established.
