South Gloucestershire drain cover thefts prompt appeal

A spate of thefts of drain covers in south Gloucestershire has led to a police appeal for witnesses.

Officers said highways bosses reported 10 covers going missing throughout March and April from Whitfield, Almondsbury, Thornbury and Aust.

It is believed they were stolen for their scrap metal value.

Pc Roger Hopes said missing drain covers could be a serious hazard to road users, especially cyclists and motorbike riders.

He urged anyone with information to contact the police.
