BBC Bristol and Somerset radio presenter Peter Rowell has appeared before Bristol magistrates on indecent assault charges.

Mr Rowell, 52, from Wickwar in South Gloucestershire, faces four charges against two girls aged under 16, between 1989 and 1992.

He was bailed with the condition he stays at the Priory Hospital in Bristol with a 24-hour curfew.

He is due to reappear at Bristol Magistrates' Court on 20 June.

A condition of his bail is that Mr Rowell cannot leave the Priory Hospital unless accompanied by a member of staff.

Mr Rowell has presented the afternoon show on BBC Radio Bristol and BBC Somerset since last May.
