Filton and Stroud College merger consultation starts

A five-week consultation into plans to merge Filton College near Bristol and Stroud College has begun.

The colleges said the merger would put them in a "position of strength" and would provide them with a "sound future".

Mike Farmer, from Stroud College, said the move would "improve performance whilst reducing costs and increasing participation".

A final decision over the merger could be made in August.

John Huggett, chair of the Filton College Corporation, said: "Our two colleges are very similar in terms of curriculum offer and performance.

"This is also true in terms of our culture and ethos and would ensure the rural towns between our two campuses are well served by good vocational colleges."
