Thousands of people have gathered at the Cenotaph in Bristol city centre to lay wreaths as an act of remembrance.

A parade started at College Green and roads were closed for two hours as marchers made their way for a service and two minute silence at the Cenotaph.

Similar services took place in South Gloucestershire and Weston-super-Mare where the Mayor and Mayoress took part.

In north Somerset, tributes were paid to Major Matthew Collins who was killed in Afghanistan in March.

Maj Collins, 38, from Backwell, served with Windsor-based 1st Battalion Irish Guards but died when his vehicle hit a roadside bomb.
