North Somerset Council in street cleaning cut proposal
The cost of street cleaning across North Somerset could be cut by £735,000 over the next three years, the local council has proposed.
A public consultation has got under way over plans to scale back street cleaning and grounds maintenance.
North Somerset Council would also stop tending flower beds and hanging baskets in public places.
Once the consultation ends, the council will begin a tendering process for a new contractor to start in April 2013.
The chosen firm would be responsible for grounds, trees, and street cleaning.
These three areas were previously delivered by three different contractors.
Since the services will be scaled back to only cover statutory obligations, town and parish councils would have to pay more for extra services such as litter collections after local events, North Somerset Council said.
The consultation ends on 25 May.
