Portishead school expansion considered

A primary school in Portishead could expand by almost a third if council plans are given the go-ahead.

North Somerset Council said the town needed more permanent places and it was considering the expansion at St Peter's Church of England Primary School.

If the plan is given the go-ahead the school will move from a total of 420 children to 630.

A consultation is under way with the council saying it was aware of congestion issues at a bigger school.

Sally Varley, who is leading a consultation into the plan, said: "We are conscious of congestion issues with an expanded school and the problems this can cause for local residents, especially as the school is in a cul-de-sac."
