The Liberal Democrat group on Bristol City Council has chosen a new leader.

Councillor Gary Hopkins, who represents Knowle, will succeed Tim Kent. Councillor Clare Campion-Smith will be his deputy, the party has announced.

Meanwhile, Bristol's longest serving councillor Peter Abraham is to step down as Conservative group leader.

Mr Abraham has been a councillor for almost 50 years and leader of the Tory group for more than 20 years.

His successor will be chosen at a meeting of the Conservative group on Thursday.
