Woman tried to smuggle drugs out of jail

A woman has been caught trying to smuggle drugs out of jail while on her way to court.

A Government report, which has been seen by the BBC, shows she was found with methadone, cannabis and tablets at Eastwood Park prison near Thornbury.

The internal confidential document, which lists incidents in prisons in England and Wales, shows it happened in the week ending 22 June.

The woman was placed on report and the incident has been referred to police.

The weekly report states that the prisoner was being processed in the prison's reception prior to being escorted to court.

"She was acting suspiciously so staff conducted a full search," the document states.

"On removing her underwear staff discovered a bottle of methadone, a quantity of cannabis and approximately 100 tablets of various sorts."

The woman attended court, and on her return "she was placed on report and the incident was referred to the police".
