A convicted burglar has absconded from Leyhill Open Prison near Bristol, making him the jail's third prisoner to be reported missing in a week.

Michael Dare - described by police as a danger to the public - was last seen at Leyhill at 17:00 GMT on Friday.

Dare, who is serving a 20-month sentence for a burglary committed in 2010, is believed to be in Birmingham.

He is aged 29 and described as white, 5ft 11ins tall, of heavy build, with an angular face and receding brown hair.

He has links to Suffolk and speaks with an East Anglian accent.

Dare has a tattoo of a cross on his left arm and was wearing a tracksuit at the time he is believed to have absconded.

An Avon and Somerset Police spokesman said: "Dare, who we believe may be in the Birmingham area, is considered to be a risk to the public so we'd advise anyone who sees him not to approach him, but to call 999 immediately."

Police are also hunting convicted murderer Daniel Shankly, 30, and 29-year-old Daniel Wynne who are believed to have vanished together from Leyhill on 25 October.

Wynne is serving a two-year sentence for assault.
