Police watchdog investigators have been speaking to potential witnesses after a woman was critically injured by a police car in Bristol.

The 33-year-old was struck by a marked car on Saturday at about 22:00 GMT as officers responded to reports of a man making threats with a knife.

An Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) spokesman appealed for witnesses to come forward.

The victim was hit at the junction of Stokes Croft and Ninetree Hill.

IPCC Associate Commissioner Guido Liguori said: "There will have been a number of people enjoying a Saturday night out in the vicinity of where the collision happened.

"We would urge anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward and assist our investigation.

"Our investigation is at an early stage and my thoughts are with the woman and her family at this difficult time."

He said witnesses could call 0800 092 0340 or email with further details.
