Arsonists have been blamed for starting a fire in a scrap yard which saw two homes evacuated and several caravans destroyed.

The fire broke out in the yard on Russell Town Avenue in the Lawrence Hill area of Bristol at about 21:00 BST on Monday.

The blaze sent large plumes of black smoke into the air for more than an hour.

A spokeswoman for Avon Fire Service said the fire was started deliberately.
