A £350,000 temporary ice rink in Cambridge has been given approval by planners in the city.

The 600 sq m (6,500 sq ft) rink will be near Parker's Piece, near the centre of Cambridge, from November to January in 2010, 2011 and 2012.

Cambridge City Council's planning committee approved the plans, put forward by the firm Cambridge On Ice.

Brian Cleary, the managing director of Cambridge On Ice - which put in the plans, said it was "fantastic news".
