Bid to improve accident blackspot on A1101 near Wisbech

A £350,000 scheme to improve safety on a Cambridgeshire road which has become an accident blackspot is due to start.

A section of the A1101, north of Wisbech and known as the Gypsy Bends, saw 23 accidents, including five fatal crashes between 2005 and 2009.

The work will include widening out the bends and improving the road surface to reduce skidding.

The work, being carried out by Cambridgeshire Highways, is due to start on Monday.

The road will be kept open during the initial phase of the work, but the resurfacing work will require it be closed for up to 10 days starting on 4 October.
