Protest against Cambridgeshire wind farm plans

A demonstration has taken place to protest against plans to build a wind farm off the A14 in Cambridgeshire.

Npower Renewables wants to erect eight wind turbines at Thrapston, near Molesworth, arguing it is a good site with key transport links.

But the Stop Molesworth Wind Farm Action Group (SMWFA) said the turbines would be too close to homes.

The group held a protest meeting to mark the opening of an Npower exhibition of its wind farm plans.

The exhibition at Molesworth village hall is part of the public consultation into the scheme for eight wind turbines.

Matt Pinfield, developer at RWE Npower Renewables, said: "Onshore wind farms are vital if the UK is going to make its contribution to the global effort to tackle climate change."

The SMWFA said the 126m-high turbines would have a detrimental visual and environmental impact on the area.
