Raiders strip Cambridgeshire church roof of lead

Sunday worshippers at a Cambridgeshire church arrived to find raiders had removed much of the lead from the roof.

Church wardens believe the metal was taken from St James Church in Little Paxton over the weekend.

On Sunday they noticed mortar on the grass near the church and looked up to see a portion of the lead roof had been removed.

The church said with the amount of lead taken and the damage caused repairs could cost up to £5,000.

The congregation had been trying to raise money to revamp the building and many were upset by the attack.
