Cambridge march in protest at government spending cuts

A rally and march has taken place in Cambridge in protest at the government's public spending cuts.

Workers, students and trade unionists gathered at Parkside Fire Station and marched through the city to the Guildhall.

Chancellor George Osborne announced deep public spending cuts on Wednesday.

Cambridge and District Trades Council staged the event on Saturday, with organisations able to set up stalls in the Guildhall.

The government said the cuts were necessary to reduce the UK's £155bn deficit and strengthen the UK's economy in the longer term.

It aims to save £83bn in four years.
