Littleport lorry driver jailed for A14 crash death

A driver from Cambridgeshire has been jailed for causing the death of a man when his lorry hit queuing traffic on the A14.

At Cambridge Crown Court Melvyn Gillett, 44, of Croft Park Road, Littleport, admitted causing the death of Simon Bendall by dangerous driving.

Father-of-four Mr Bendall, 53, of Isleham, near Ely, was waiting to join a slip road at Milton, the court heard.

Gillett was given a 16-month prison sentence.

The incident happened in April 2010.
