Dead man from Chittering suffered head injuries

A 76-year-old man whose body was found at a house in Cambridgeshire died from head and facial injuries, a post-mortem examination has found.

Police were called to a house in Ely Road, Chittering, on Sunday afternoon where they found the man's body.

The victim's car, a silver Rover estate registration BJ51 CJV, believed to have been stolen on Saturday evening, was found on Monday morning in Milton.

Police have appealed for anyone who has any information about the man.

'Mechanical issues'

The pensioner was discovered by officers at his property in Ely Road shortly after 12:30 GMT.

Police had been called to the house by neighbours who were concerned for the occupant.

Detectives are treating the death as murder and are appealing for information about the movements of the victim's car.

Det Ch Insp Ian Tandy said: "We are very keen to hear from anyone who saw the victim's car between his home in Chittering, by the Travellers Rest public house, and Milton on Saturday evening.

"The car had mechanical issues and would have made a lot of noise when it was being driven. It is also likely to have been travelling slowly."
