Melbourn death: Philip Harper 'a delinquent Ray Mears'

A man who was shot dead in a Cambridgeshire village has been described as a "delinquent Ray Mears" by his mother.

Philip Harper, 46, of High Street, Meldreth was attacked in Melbourn on Sunday.

Ian Catley, 40, of Metcalfe Way, Melbourn has been charged with murder.

Pauline Harper, from Meldreth, said: "Philip was our son and we loved him dearly. He was loyal, compassionate, inquisitive and stoic."

She added: "A 'delinquent Ray Mears', Philip was always up for a challenge.

"We are glad to have shared our lives with him and we will miss him terribly."

Mr Harper was taken to Melbourn ambulance station at 17:50 BST and died a short time later.
