Penzance man, 85, arrested for attempted murder

An 85-year-old man has been arrested by police in Cornwall on suspicion of attempted murder.

The man and his wife were taken to hospital after paramedics were called to their home at Buryas Bridge, near Penzance, on Wednesday morning.

They appeared to be suffering from the effects of breathing in fumes, emergency crews said.

The arrested man has been released on bail until December. His wife, 86, is still at the Royal Cornwall Hospital.

Police began an investigation when they were alerted by the ambulance crew which was called to their home at about 0750 BST on Wednesday.
