A town in Cornwall is attempting to prove that a traditional local shopping centre can still satisfy the needs of 21st century shoppers.

Market Way traders in Redruth have laid on a series of activities and entertainment to encourage more visitors and local people.

It is hoped the open day event could be staged on a regular basis.

Town mayor, Ian Thomas, said the Chamber of Commerce was doing all it could to protect the town centre.

Some of the Market Way shops will offer customers special discounts.

The entertainment will include the town crier, Redruth Town Band, dancing and dance workshops.

The event will run from 1230 until 1630 BST.
