Bishop Tim says it is important to offer practical help for people who are struggling

Hundreds of people in Cornwall have attended special roadshows which look at practical ways the church can help local people.

The roadshows were organised by the Bishop of Truro.

The Right Reverend Tim Thornton said it was important to know how to turn words into action.

"For me it's really crucial that we encourage people to share stories of good practice," he told BBC News.

Bishop Tim said he was totally committed to the practical application of churches reaching out to and supporting those who needed a helping hand.

He said it was important for the wider community to connect with each other.

"As I'm saying in the roadshows - 'for God's sake do something' to try to find one thing to take on as a new idea or initiative," he said.

Two more roadshows have been planned for Tuesday at St Anne's Community Hall in Whitstone and on Thursday at Penryn College in Falmouth. Both begin at 1930 BST.
