Man climbs roof in Bodmin to evade police

A man has been arrested after climbing a roof in Cornwall to evade police.

The 25-year-old man climbed on to the rooftop in Fore Street, Bodmin, on Saturday night. Police closed the road to vehicles and pedestrians.

Negotiators were called to the scene and the fire brigade attended with a lift platform to assist with getting him down, police said.

He was taken into custody after he was persuaded to come down from the roof after about 90 minutes.

The man was treated by a paramedic at the scene for the effects of the cold after coming down at about 2250 GMT.

He had been on the rooftop in windy and rainy conditions, police said.

Officers confirmed that they had been seeking the man before he climbed on to the roof.

He was arrested in connection with vehicle crime offences and taken to Newquay police station.
