A £48m scheme to regenerate a riverside area in south Devon has been given the go-ahead.

Councillors in the South Hams district have voted in favour of outline permission for proposals to redevelop Baltic Wharf in Totnes.

The scheme is to include 190 houses, a retirement complex and care home, cafe, offices and a public open space.

Councillors heard that the project was expected to bring about 350 jobs to the area.

The wharf is where yachtsman Pete Goss built the futuristic catamaran Team Philips to compete in a round-the-world race in 2000.
