Military in Cornwall school fees inquiry

  • Published

Military personnel with children at a Cornish school are being investigated over claims of fraud, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) has confirmed.

The claims investigated by MoD police centre on the misuse of the Continuity of Education Allowance (CEA).

It enables military families, who are often on the move, to claim boarding school fees of up to £5,833 per child per term.

The name of the school has not been revealed by the MoD.

The CEA is claimed by 5,500 military personnel, fewer than 3% of total service personnel, costing the MoD £180m a year.

An MoD spokesman said: "The MoD must investigate all allegations of misuse of public money."
