Cornwall blackout hits thousands of homes

A power cut affected tens of thousands of homes in west Cornwall on Wednesday night.

Western Power Distribution said that more than 40,000 homes were blacked out for more than two hours just after 0100 GMT.

The power cut hit Helston, St Keverne, Mullion, Constantine, Falmouth, Penryn and Lanner.

The company said that a fault in overhead lines and an electricity sub station caused the blackout.
