Carbis Bay fire treated as suspicious by police
A fire in west Cornwall in which more than 70 people were evacuated from their homes is being treated by police as "suspicious".
About 100 firefighters were called to Carbis Bay after the fire started at about 00:00 BST.
Witnesses reported hearing a bang and seeing flames coming from a former guest house on St Ives Road.
Devon and Cornwall Police said the fire started in the building, which is undergoing construction work.
The fire also spread to a care home next to the building.
Both properties were empty at the time.
Local resident Stan Barlow said: "Once the fire started spreading the [emergency services] weren't sure where it would go, so we were evacuated."
An investigation into the fire is under way.
