Former Bodmin teacher jailed for abuse

A former teacher from Cornwall has been jailed for three years for grooming and sexually abusing a pupil.

Philip Hadley aged 49, of Roslyn Close in St Austell, had earlier pleaded guilty to three offences of indecent assault committed in the early 1990s.

At Truro Crown Court Hadley was told he had shown the girl "inappropriate attention" and that he had used this to "groom her".

Hadley was ordered to sign the Sex Offenders Register for life.

The judge also imposed a Sexual Offences Prevention Order on Hadley.

Judge Graham Cottle said: "You took children on trips after which you would take her home and sexual contact began with kissing which developed over two or three years to full sexual intercourse."

The court was told the girl told police what had happened when she became a teacher herself.
