Tractor driver trapped by fallen cable in Saltash

A tractor driver was left trapped in his cab after a mains electricity cable came down in a field.

The 33,000-volt electric cable came down from a pole at about 14:10 BST while the tractor was muck-spreading in a field at Pillaton, near Saltash in Cornwall, the fire service said.

The driver was in danger of being electrocuted and told to remain inside the cab until the cable was made safe.

Engineers made the cable safe and the driver was freed unharmed at 17:35 BST.

The cable set fire to straw stubble, burning a 50sq/m area.

Firefighters used beaters to stop it spreading.
