Plans to build homes in an area of outstanding natural beauty (AONB) in Cornwall have been criticised.

Land owner and farmer Mark Rowe has put forward proposals for 60 homes at Shrubberies Hill in Porthleven.

Protestors said the development would "obliterate" the character of the area near Helston, adding 700 people had signed a petition against the plans.

Mr Rowe said he was just trying to provide homes for locals and up to 36 of them would be affordable.

The Friends of Porthleven protest group claimed the character of the area would be changed forever if the houses were built.

Mr Rowe said the homes would be built to a high standard because of the AONB status.

The plans are to be debated at a public meeting later this month before the application is considered by Cornwall Council.
