A lone skipper has been rescued from his yacht after it ran aground on rocks at Par in mid Cornwall.

Brixham coastguards said they were "overwhelmed with 999 calls" reporting red flares from the 26ft (8m) Osprey.

The vessel ran aground on Killyvarder Rock at the entrance to Par docks.

The yachtsman was not hurt and his vessel was towed into Fowey by the local lifeboat in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
